OUR HISTORY "The Pride of the East"
In 1967, Arnold Adams took over a near non-existent East Carteret band (seven members) and made the impossible seem possible, turning it into one of the best high school bands in the state, if not the country.
Over the next 30 years, Mr. Adams took East Carteret's Marching Mariners from one coast to the next, making two trips to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and a trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade. The band also visited Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and Washington, D.C.
The Marching Mariners are a two time Macy's participant given the honor to attend in 1987 and 1995 as well as the coveted Rose Bowl parade in 1990. Macy’s at the time allowed only 12 high school bands in its parade, while the Rose Bowl allowed just seven out-of-state bands.
